Roof Deicing SystemMost Homes have a soffit or roof overhang which extends beyond the exterior walls of the Home. These soffit/overhangs are great for protecting the Home from rain splash. The same soffit however, is virtually unprotected from freezing during the winter months because the Home’s heating system cannot heat the section of roof which extends beyond the exterior walls. This unheated portion of roof is prone to ice-damming, that is, a build-up of snow and ice just above the soffit/overhang area. This dam has the potential to trap the water that will naturally melt and run down the heated section of the roof. This water will then pool at the dam the ice and snow had created, and is likely to back-up under the shingles and into your home. The water damage the dam helped to create usually takes place along the interior ceilings and walls closest to the soffits. A Deicing System is a network of specialized resistive cabling which we would install onto the unheated roof area above the soffits. Additionally, the resistive cabling would be installed along leaders and gutters to help prevent ice from forming, thus creating a pathway for water to flow off the roof. With a Roof Deicing System, it is far less likely to have ice dams, and heavy gutters caused by accumulating ice and snow.
